Facts and practical information
The "El Salvador" Cemetery is a cemetery in the city of Rosario. Located in front of Independencia Park, very close to the city center, it is the resting place of many of Rosario's historical personalities.
It has 11 hectares where there are more than 32,000 tombs in which some 60,000 people are buried.
It was officially inaugurated on July 7, 1856 with the burial of Agustín Sánchez, a young man of 18 years old; although the day before Laureano and José Ibarra, two twin boys, barely three days old, had been buried.
The building is the work of the architect Oswald Menzell. Its main entrance shows its Doric style portico with colonnade and pediment. On the central access street, the pantheons are imposing and rich in details. Several of them were built by the firm Fontana and Scarabelli. Others were built by Palau, Blotta, Gerbino and Gianninazzi.
