The "Mario del Tránsito Cocomarola" Amphitheatre is an open performance hall in the city of Corrientes, Argentina. This amphitheatre owes its name in honor of Mario del Tránsito Cocomarola, a bandoneon player and chamamecero musician from Corrientes.
Inaugurated in 1987, it is located between Sarmiento and Patagonia avenues, and Valerio Bonastre and Santa Cruz streets, occupying an urban block in trapezoidal shape. It has installed seats in the form of concrete benches with fixed backrests, for 7500 people. The venue is 500 square meters in size, with a total capacity for 15,000 spectators.
The stage, named after "Osvaldo Sosa Cordero", is 35 meters wide and 15 meters deep, allowing the performance of impressive stage shows -including the internationally known Carnavales Correntinos- and multitudinous shows of Argentine and Latin American popular music and dance.
It is also the venue of the most important meeting of the chamamecera music: the National Chamamé Festival.
It has dressing rooms with their respective individual and general private bathrooms. The imposing coliseum is brought to life by a large number of stage specialists who are mobilized before, during and after each show.
