Plazoleta El Resero, Buenos Aires
Facts and practical information
The equestrian monument "El Gaucho Resero", also known simply as "El Resero", is an icon of the neighborhood of Mataderos, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The work was commissioned in 1929 by the Municipality of that city to the sculptor Emilio Jacinto Sarniguet to be placed at the entrance of the so-called "Liniers Market". Finished in 1932, it won the first prize at the National Salon that year.
In 1934 it was placed in the place where it still is: the small square located in Lisandro de la Torre Avenue at 2300, in front of the Corrales Avenue and in front of what used to be the entrance to the mentioned market.
The 1962 to 1968 issues of the Argentine national 10 peso coins had an image of this work engraved on one of their sides.
