The Ganghofer Museum in Leutasch-Kirchplatzl documents the life and work of folk writer Ludwig Ganghofer, Leutasch village history and local hunting life.
Ludwig Ganghofer spent almost twenty years in his hunting lodge "Hubertus" in the Gaistal in Leutasch and wrote a large part of his works there, including his most famous, the novel Das Schweigen im Walde. Ganghofer's hunting lodge was a popular meeting place for Munich's artistic celebrities around 1900: Ernst von Wolzogen, Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Richard Strauss, the conductor Bruno Walter, the singer Leo Slezak, the painters Franz von Stuck, Friedrich August von Kaulbach, Franz Defregger, Mathias Schmid, Hugo Engl and Hermann Ebers were guests here, among many other famous personalities.
In 1999, the Ganghofer and local history museum was opened in the former elementary school of the village.
