Mörzelspitze
Facts and practical information
The Mörzelspitze is a 1,830-meter-high mountain in the Bregenzerwald Mountains, located on the municipal border between the two Austrian municipalities of Dornbirn and Mellau in the Bregenzerwald. The summit of the mountain is easily accessible on foot and is part of the so-called Dornbirner First, a mountain range that is still clearly visible from Friedrichshafen on clear days.
On the flatter southeastern side of the Mörzelspitze is the Obermörzelalpe, on the steep slope of the northwestern part of the mountain is situated the Untersehren- and Obersehrenalpe.
All the alps are easily accessible from the mountain village of Ebnit, which belongs to Dornbirn, as well as from Mellental, which belongs to Mellau and is a protected area. To the north is the Leuenkopf, which can be reached via a striking ridge, and a little further to the southeast the highest mountain in the Dornbirn municipality, the Sünser Spitze, as well as the striking Hohe Freschen.
The 6 m × 3.2 m summit cross, made of aluminum, was erected on June 25, 1977 by the Vorarlberger Naturwacht E. Group Dornbirn in teamwork with the Federal Ministry of the Interior.
