Heimatmuseum Arlerhof Abtenau
Facts and practical information
The Museum Arlergut is a museum of local history in the municipality of Abtenau in the Hallein district of Salzburg.
The first documentary mention of the Arlergut was in 1325. The farm was farmed until 1980. In 1982 the museum was founded. It gives insight into the meager living conditions on the farm of a Lammertal farmer in pre-industrial times.
The museum includes a typical Tennengau farm with a dwelling house, farm buildings, troad box, root garden and bee house. For the museum was collected the entire inventory, which was necessary for a farm of the area. In the outbuildings there are special exhibitions: for example, the ornithological collection of the Archbishopric of St. Peter in Salzburg and the collection of the equipment of the volunteer fire department from its founding period. Another show is dedicated to beekeeping.
The residential building from the middle of the 19th century consists of masonry river stones in the basement, the second floor is carpentered from wood. A brick cellar room in the Rauchkuchl is used for storing food and drinks. The parlor is heated by a tiled stove. A small opening in the parlor ceiling is used to heat the sleeping chamber, which is located above the parlor.
The stable building is not structurally connected with the farmhouse, so that in case of fire at least one of the two buildings is preserved. Here there is a deep barn for storing hay supplies and a threshing floor where farm implements are displayed. The troadkasten, where the grain harvest and seed for the coming year were stored, houses the beekeeping museum. Near the Dachserbach stream, there is a saw equipped with a Venetian gate and a house mill, both of which are in working order.
During the summer season, a show sawing is held once a week.
Information about the museum is available at the Aumühle Inn next door.
