The Mausoleum of Emperor Ferdinand II next to the Graz Cathedral is a monumental sacral and representative building from the 17th century, which was connected from two different buildings. Begun in 1614 and completed in 1714 after decades of interruptions in construction, it consists of St. Catherine's Church and the adjoining burial chapel for Emperor Ferdinand II and his family. Together they form one of Austria's most important architectural monuments from the Mannerist period, the transitional period from the Renaissance to the Baroque.
