New Cathedral, Linz

The New Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, is a towering embodiment of Gothic architecture in the heart of Linz, Austria. Officially inaugurated in 1924, it stands as the largest church in Austria, with the capacity to house 20,000 worshippers. Despite its name, the New Cathedral's construction began in the 19th century, under the auspices of Bishop Rudigier. The cornerstone was laid in 1862, and the edifice was consecrated in 1905, although the final touches were not completed until decades later.

Rising to a height of 135 meters, the cathedral's spire was intentionally kept shorter than that of St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna, out of respect for the capital's major religious site.
