Facts and practical information
Keokradong, nestled in the verdant hills of the Bandarban District in Bangladesh, is one of the highest peaks in the country, offering an elevation that grants trekkers an unparalleled view of the surrounding landscape. Standing at an altitude of approximately 986 meters (3,235 feet), it was once thought to be the highest point in Bangladesh until the discovery of Saka Haphong.
This mountain is a beacon for adventurers and nature enthusiasts alike. The route to Keokradong's summit is a challenging trek that takes visitors through a diverse array of terrains, from dense bamboo groves to tribal villages and roaring waterfalls, such as the Nafakhum and Amiakhum falls. The area is home to various indigenous communities, including the Bawm and Marma people, whose unique culture and warm hospitality add to the richness of the experience.
The journey to Keokradong is as rewarding as the destination itself, with the path revealing the untouched beauty of Bangladesh’s hilly landscape. The trek can be quite strenuous and is often recommended for those with a reasonable level of fitness. However, the effort is well compensated by the breathtaking views and the sense of tranquility one finds at the peak.
Due to its remote location, Keokradong is less commercialized than other tourist spots, which helps preserve its natural charm. Visitors are advised to travel with a local guide to navigate the trails safely and to gain insight into the local way of life.
Keokradong's peak, often shrouded in mists, gives a mystical atmosphere to the mountain, making it a serene escape from the bustle of urban life. It's a place where the air is crisp, the stars shine brightly at night, and the harmony of nature's elements is palpable.
