Facts and practical information
The Eyneburg Castle in Hergenrath is one of the most important historical buildings on the territory of the German-speaking community of Belgium.
The name Eyneburg refers to the first owners of the castle, the von Eyneberghe family, in the 13th century. In popular tradition, it also bears the name Emmaburg, which is based on a 19th-century legend that Emma, a daughter of Charlemagne, met her lover Einhard here.
