Facts and practical information
Piatã Beach is a beach in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. It has a shape resembling that of a cove, ending in a small rocky peninsula.
The beach is usually frequented by both "soteropolitanos" and tourists, and it is always full. Banhistas experience the presence of a large number of surfers, who have started to use this beach for the practice of the sport, as well as the nearby beach of Jaguaribe.
By Salvador's Urban Development Master Plan, it is considered an area of cultural and landscape protection.
It was known as "São Tomé Beach" due to a legend about the saint's apparition.
On the beach is the "Parque dos Coqueiros de Piatã", a coconut grove implemented as part of the city's urbanization and next to the Corsário beach park, on the banks of Avenida Otávio Mangabeira.
