When Is the Best Time To Visit Bulgaria?
The answer to the question of what is the best month to visit Bulgaria depends on what you are interested in doing during your stay. Here you can see an overview of each month and its typical weather conditions.
Tourist Season in Bulgaria
Bulgaria is best visited during the summer months from June to August. During this time, it is relatively dry throughout the country, and the air and water temperatures are at their highest. The days are hot and sunny, so we can enjoy all forms of recreation - from sunbathing in seaside resorts to sightseeing in cities to traversing mountain trails.
The spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) months are a bit cooler and rainier than the summer months, but this is still a good time to visit Bulgaria, especially for those who want to avoid the biggest heat waves. There is no shortage of sunny and warm days, although one should expect increased cloud cover and fleeting rainfall, which can complicate plans somewhat.
The winter months (November through March) are outside the main tourist season. This is the coldest time of the year, and the snowfall that occurs makes travel much more difficult. During this period, the ski season is underway in mountainous areas.

The spring months bring longer and warmer days. Temperatures range from 16°C - 25°C, but unfortunately evenings and nights remain cool. It is worth knowing that it is colder in the center of the country and in high mountainous areas. Despite sunnier days, there is often fleeting precipitation and brief thunderstorms. This is a good time for those wishing to avoid the heat and preferring a more intimate holiday without a crowd of tourists.
Above all, spring is a great time for sightseeing, road trips, hiking and active recreation. This is not the ideal period for those who want to relax on the beaches and enjoy swimming in the sea, as holiday resorts on the Black Sea coast are just preparing for the opening of the tourist season, and the water in the sea is still quite cold (in May it is 18°C - 20°C).
From mid-May to mid-June, it is worth going to the blooming Rose Valley (from Karlovo to Kazanlyk) and taking part in festivals and parades related to the harvest and celebration of roses.

The summer months - the warmest and least rainy months of the year - are the peak of the tourist season. This is the ideal period for sightseeing as well as mountain trekking and climbing to higher elevations. Apart from the mountain areas, where it is slightly cooler, the temperature throughout the country fluctuates between 25°C and 30°C, and often exceeds 35°C. The sunny aura guarantees a pleasant holiday, especially for lovers of beach and sea sports, for which there are excellent conditions.
During the summer months, the sun shines for about ten hours a day, and the water in the sea is warm (23°C - 25°C) and encourages swimming. On the shores of the Red Sea, the high air temperature is offset by the sea breeze, which makes relaxing on the beaches less strenuous. Popular seaside resorts such as Sunny Beach, Golden Sands, Sveti Vlas, Primorsko, Ravda, Obzor, Albena are besieged by tourists.
