Facts About Filhós
Filhó is a cherished traditional dessert in both Portugal and Northeastern Brazil. In Portugal, these delightful treats are typically made by mixing flour and eggs to form a dough, shaping it into balls, allowing them to rise, and then deep frying them. Once fried to a golden-brown perfection, they are generously sprinkled with a mixture of sugar and cinnamon. This sweet indulgence is a staple during the Christmas season in Portugal.
In contrast, the Brazilian version of Filhó offers a slight variation. Instead of the sugar and cinnamon topping, Brazilian Filhós are often coated with honey or a special syrup made from melted Rapadura, which is fondly referred to as "Mel de Rapadura" in Brazilian Portuguese. Both versions offer a unique and delicious taste of their respective cultures.
