Swiss wing

Swiss wings are a cherished dish in several Hong Kong restaurants, featuring chicken wings marinated in a sweet soy sauce blend. The marinade typically consists of soy sauce, sugar, Chinese wine, and an assortment of spices. Despite what the name might suggest, "Swiss wings" bear no connection to Switzerland. Instead, they likely originated in Hong Kong or Guangzhou.

The origin of the name is somewhat enigmatic. One popular tale involves a misunderstanding in a restaurant where a Western customer misheard a Chinese waiter, believing they had said "Swiss" instead of "sweet." Thus, the name "Swiss wings" endured.

Some believe the dish was first created by Tai Ping Koon, a well-known restaurant in Hong Kong. It is not uncommon for Hong Kong establishments to name new dishes after places, regardless of any actual connection.

Swiss wings have gained considerable popularity and were even featured on the TVB cooking variety show "So Good."
