When Is the Best Time To Visit Cook Islands?

The answer to the question of what is the best month to visit Cook Islands depends on what you are interested in doing during your stay. Here you can see an overview of each month and its typical weather conditions.

Climate of Cook Islands

The Cook Islands lie in a humid tropical climate zone, characterized by high air temperatures ranging between 22°C - 30°C and high humidity. The water temperature remains high all year round at around 24°C - 27°C. Rainfall varies, the northern islands are low rainfall areas, which is due to the action of the trade winds, while the southern islands are humid areas, where rainfall is higher and exceeds 2,200 mm.

On the islands we can distinguish between the dry and rainy seasons.

The dry season lasts from April to November, the weather then is milder, and the temperature drops a few degrees and stays within 26°C. Precipitation does occur, but it is considerably less and does not impede travel in any way.

The rainy season covers the summer months from December to March, when most of the rainfall is recorded. The rains usually occur in the late afternoons in the form of violent storms combined with thunderstorms. It is hot and humid, with temperatures reaching 30°C, but even during this period there are occasional bright and sunny days.
