Facts About Black guan
The black guan, an intriguing bird from the Cracidae family, is native to the verdant Talamancan montane forests of Costa Rica and Panama. This captivating species is distinguished by its striking black plumage, vivid blue facial skin surrounding a red eye, and pinkish-red legs and feet, measuring approximately 24 inches (61 cm) in length.
Primarily consuming fruits and berries, the black guan navigates the canopy with graceful ease. Despite its vibrant appearance, it is a relatively quiet bird.
Its preferred habitat is the subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. Unfortunately, the black guan faces considerable threats from habitat loss, leading to its classification as Near Threatened. With a limited range, the dangers of hunting and ongoing habitat degradation jeopardize the survival of this unique species.
