Basilica Menor de San Francisco de Asis, Havana

The Basilica Menor de San Francisco de Asis stands as a magnificent example of colonial baroque architecture in the heart of Old Havana, Cuba. This historic church, with its striking façade and robust bell tower, has been a prominent fixture in the city since the late 16th century, although the structure as seen today was completed in 1738.

The church was named after St. Francis of Assisi and initially served as a Franciscan monastery. Over the centuries, it has witnessed numerous modifications and uses, including a period when it functioned as a warehouse and postal office in the 19th century. However, it has since been restored to its former glory, and in 1994, Pope John Paul II granted it the status of a minor basilica.
