Facts and practical information
Church dedicated to St. Mikołaj in Nydek-a historic, wooden church in Nydek, in the Moravian-Silesian country in the Czech Republic. It is a branch church of the parish of St. Catherine in Wandering. As Fr. Józef Londzin "The church in Nydek seems to, the most modest wooden church in our Silesia. It was built in 1576 for the convenience of the inhabitants of Nydek, who had too far the way to the parish church in the Wandering."
It was built by local evangelicals, which was most contributed by the head of Nydecki Walenty Rykała with his brother Tomasz. In 1580, pastor Marcin Waligóra from Skoczów painted the following inscription in Czech on wood, then suspended in the sacristy: March 21, 1654 was taken away from Lutherans by a special commission. Even in 1688, however, it was found that evangelicals were secretly gathering in it, who also constituted most of the village residents for the next century. In 1757 a new painting was mounted in the main altar depicting St. Nicholas. In 1798, due to the poor condition of the building, a general renovation was carried out, during which it was rebuilt, a foundation was made, a new roof and the tower was lowered, an old bell from 1581 with the Latin inscription Jesus Nazarenus rex Judaeorum was kept. The next renovation took place in 1894, at the request of the priest Antoni Olszak was made by Cieszyn builder L. Kametz. Instead of shingles, the walls of the church and the tower with boards are then updated. In 1898, at the request of the priest Herrmann a stone floor in the church was exchanged for concrete. The next renovations took place in 1910 and 1934, in the mid -1990s and in 2005, when the shingle roof was replaced. The church's equipment is modest, has 14 benches for the faithful, on four columns a wooden choir is based, decorated with a decorative woodcarving.
