Košťál
Facts and practical information
Košt'ál, often called Košt'álov, is a hill in the western part of the Bohemian Central Highlands above the town of Třebenice. On its peak stands the ruins of the medieval castle of Košt'álov, after which the whole hill is often named.
Thanks to its geological configuration, with the less resistant breccia rock forming the base, while the more solid trachybazalt and basanite rocks form its upper part, a distinctive rocky peak has developed here, which distinguishes Košťál from most of the surrounding rounded domed hills. Irregular, slabby and columnar rock detachment can be observed on the steep rocky slopes. The lower parts of the slopes are covered by boulder flows and heaps where landslides occur.
