Park Colonnade, Karlovy Vary
Facts and practical information
The Sadova Colonnade is one of the five main colonnades in Karlovy Vary. It was built between 1880 and 1881 according to the project of Viennese architects Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer. It originally served as a promenade to the neighbouring Blansko Pavilion. The promenade was connected with a summer restaurant. However, the Blanenský pavilion was demolished in 1966 to make way for the adjacent Dvořák Gardens. In 2002 the cast iron colonnade was reconstructed.
The colonnade is used for drinking the Orchard Spring, however, the spring is located in the Military Spa Convalescent Centre. In the late 1980s, another spring, named Snake Spring, was discovered by the spa hydrogeologist Vylita. Its intake was located in the West Pavilion and opened to the public on July 10, 2004. Its temperature of 30 °C is among the cooler ones and it is considered to be the tastiest spring in Karlovy Vary.
