Skibby Kirke, Skibby
Facts and practical information
Skibby Church is a church in Skibby Parish in Frederikssund Municipality. It is known for the Skibby Chronicle.
Skibby Church was built in the first part of the 12th century, when Skibby was still a market town. Therefore, the church is larger than a village church and it has not been necessary to expand the church.
The two bells are from 1806 and 1879
Both apse, choir and nave are built of freestone. During a restoration in 1869, the exterior walls were covered with cement plaster; this has been removed from the apse. The wide nave was supported by five pillars in the 15th century, when the nave was provided with 2×4 cross vaults.
The armoury, which faces north, is built of monks' stone in the late Gothic style.
The altar table is probably as old as the church and is made of freestone. The crucifix dates from 1894. The old altarpiece from 1608 has been moved to the north wall of the nave.
