Facts About Weekend Festival
The "Weekend Festival" first launched in Luukki, Espoo, Finland, back in August 2012. Since then, it has travelled to various locations, including Helsinki, Stockholm, and Pärnu. While the festival is renowned for featuring top EDM artists, it also showcases talent from a wide array of music genres. Each year, the event attracts a massive crowd, with over 40,000 music enthusiasts attending annually. What sets the festival apart is its yearly adoption of a new theme, which shapes the overall vibe and visual aesthetics of the event.
Renowned artists like Skrillex, David Guetta, Calvin Harris, and Martin Garrix have graced its stages, along with some of Finland’s beloved local artists. Unsurprisingly, the festival sells out every year and was even voted the best summer festival by the listeners of Finnish radio station YleX in 2013. The Weekend Festival has expanded beyond Finland, making its mark in Estonia and Sweden over the years.
As for its venues, the festival commenced in Luukki but subsequently moved to Kyläsaari/Kalasatama in Helsinki. In 2018, it found a new home at Hietaniemi Beach, transforming into a three-day extravaganza. Unfortunately, the 2020 edition, which was planned to be held at Käpylä Sports Park in Helsinki, had to be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Festival-goers have plenty to explore with multiple stages and activities. In 2012, the Luukki Recreational Area featured three stages. By 2013, the event in Kyläsaari/Kalasatama, Helsinki, had expanded to four stages, although no camping facilities were available. In Pärnu, Estonia, the Baltic edition offered three stages right on the beach.
