Frans Michael Franzén

Frans Michael Franzén is a striking outdoor sculpture situated in the heart of Oulu, Finland. This notable bronze bust honors the Oulu-born poet and was crafted by Finnish sculptor Erland Stenberg between 1878 and 1879 during his period of artistic development in Paris. The sculpture’s unveiling in 1881 was a momentous event for the local community.

Originally positioned in Church Square, the bust was later relocated to a landscaped park, which was aptly named Franzén Park in tribute to the poet. This sculpture transcends its artistic value, holding the distinction of being the oldest public monument in Oulu. It serves as a significant cultural and historical landmark for the city.
