Château de Kernevez, Saint-Pol-de-Léon
Facts and practical information
Kernévez is a castle of mainly neo-classical style, at the entrance of the city of Saint-Pol-de-Léon, in Brittany. The castle of Kernévez was built shortly after 1850 for the family of Guébriant on the site of the castle of La Villeneuve. The 37-hectare landscaped park that surrounds it and descends to the sea was designed by the landscape brothers Denis and Eugène Bühler in the mid-19 th century. The appeal to Parisian designers reflects the break with the local architectural tradition. The site was listed in 1973 and the park has been listed on the ISMH since 1997, as well as the castle and the annexed buildings. It has, in addition to a wide variety of trees, a rose garden, the remains of the Kerliviry chapel, granite stone stables, a pond, a dolmen made of slabs of schist...
