Facts and practical information

The Saint-Lucien church is a Catholic parish church located in Avrechy, a commune of the Oise department. It has relics of its patron saint, Saint Lucien of Beauvais, and its auxiliary patron saint, Saint Waudru of Mons. The oldest part of the church is the square choir, which was built in the second quarter of the 12th century in the late Romanesque style. It is the most interesting part of the church for the layout of the chevet, illuminated by a triplet, and especially for its Romanesque ribbed vault. It is of considerable dimensions for its time, and its ribs are already carefully molded. The capitals are of great variety, and remarkable for their motifs. The rest of the church was rebuilt from the end of the 15th century until the middle of the 16th century in the flamboyant gothic style. The flamboyant parts of the church remain poorly studied, and their history is unknown. They are characterized by aisles almost as high as the nave, and a transept less wide than the nave, whose northern crossing serves as a base for the bell tower. Some keystones deserve attention. The most recent part of the church is the western portal in Renaissance style, which dates from the reign of Henry II. The church has been classified as a historical monument since August 29, 1950. Avrechy is no longer an independent parish. Its church is affiliated with the parish of Saint-Vincent-de-Paul of the Pays de Chaussé.
