Pont du Moulin des Pierres, Montanges
Facts and practical information
The Pont des Pierres spans the Valserine between Confort and Montanges in the Ain. Built in 1910 for the needs of the tramway from Bellegarde to Chézery, it was the highest masonry bridge in the world at the time of its realization with 65 m under vault. It became a road bridge when the tramway was abolished in 1937 and ensures the continuity of the RD 14a.
Blown up during the war in 1944, the bridge was rebuilt in concrete in 1954.
The bridge is part of a Natura 2000 site and a regional nature reserve for the EDF gallery located in the cliff under the bridge.
