Saint-Léger Church, Mouy
Facts and practical information
The church of Saint-Léger de Mouy is a Catholic parish church in the Gothic style located in Mouy, a commune in the Oise region of France. It has a remarkable polygonal choir from the third quarter of the 12th century, and the nave and transept completed before the middle of the 13th century retain a great homogeneity. The squat character of these parts of the building, attributable to the raising of the floor and the temporary nature of the very low bell tower, is compensated for by an original arrangement of the windows, and by an elevation on three floors within the nave. It has a floor of galleries formerly open to the attic, but now blocked. The western portal is very richly decorated, but it lost its authenticity following a radical restoration in the 19th century. The church has been classified as a historical monument since May 28, 1936. Its history remains for the most part in the shadows, all the archives having been lost. It is at the center of the parish of Sainte-Claire de Mouy.
