Pont des Amours, Annecy
Facts and practical information
The Pont des Amours is a footbridge located on the edge of Lake Annecy at the entrance of the Canal du Vassé; its official name is "Passerelle du Jardin Public" but the inhabitants of Annecy have long since renamed it "Pont des Amours". It connects the Pâquier to the Jardins de l'Europe where lovers used to go to find refuge and tranquility. The urban legend about this bridge says that two lovers kissing in the middle of it will be united for life. Another source mentions that the Bridge of Lovers owes its name to its former use as a meeting place for the prostitutes' love affairs. This bridge remains today a very frequented passage in an absolutely romantic setting with magnificent views of the city, the canals and the lake.
This pedestrian bridge marks one of the two entrances, along with the Thiou, of the lake waters into the city.
