Église Saint-Jean Baptiste
Facts and practical information
The Saint-Jean-Baptiste church is a Catholic parish church located in Montépilloy, in the Oise department, in France. It consists of a single nave of four square bays, and ends with a flat chevet. Despite its apparent simplicity, the church is actually the result of three distinct construction campaigns. The walls and side windows of the first three bays are in the early Gothic style, and date from the late 12th century. The portal, simple and refined at the same time, as well as the bundles of columns which support the vaults of the nave, are of late radiant style, and can be dated to the period between 1320 and 1340. Of their capitals, only portions of the frieze between the top of the shafts remain. The vaults are in the flamboyant gothic style, and form an elegant whole. Like the windows of the last bay, which display an elaborate network, they can be dated to the beginning of the 16th century. The church of St. John the Baptist was registered as a historical monument by order of February 12, 1971, and is in a good state of preservation. Sunday masses are celebrated there on the first Sunday of odd months until summer 2019.
