St. Nicholas Church, Raray
Facts and practical information
The Saint-Nicolas church is a Catholic parish church located in Raray, Oise, France. It is a small building in a fairly pure Flamboyant Gothic style, which was probably built during the 1520's / 1530's. Its eastern parts reuse older structures, and the bell tower and the vault of the Saint-Joseph chapel on the first floor date back to the mid-12th century. Both the exterior and the interior of the church are carefully designed, as evidenced by the abundant decoration of the western portal, the undulating pillars, the complex modenature and the flamboyant networks of lancets with three-lobed heads, surmounted by bellows and spandrels. All the bays are vaulted with ogives. The church was completely restored at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, and was classified as a historical monument by decree of November 28, 1921. It is today in a good state of conservation. Raray is now affiliated to the parish of Saint-Rieul de Senlis. Sunday masses have been suspended since the summer of 2019.
