Saint Vaast Church
Facts and practical information
The Saint-Vaast d'Angicourt church is a Catholic parish church located in Angicourt, a commune of the Oise department.
The church is Gothic in style, except for the southern crossing, an oriented chapel and two quarters of the bell tower which are late Romanesque. The first one concerns the nave, its side aisles and the south cross and is dated around 1170 / 1180; the second one concerns the choir-hall of two times two bays and is dated around 1240 / 1245. The choir is remarkable for its generous dimensions and its large windows with elegant infill, while the nave is an interesting witness of the early Gothic period. Its sexpartite vaults are exceptional for a rural church and lead to an original arrangement of the supports.
Although classified early as a historical monument by the list of 1862, the church remained in a state close to ruin until its complete restoration during the first half of the XX th century. It is affiliated with the parish of Saint-Martin du Liancourtois.
