Ankos Festival

The Ankos Festival, also known as the Takoradi Street Carnival or the Masquerade Festival, is a vibrant annual celebration held in Takoradi, Ghana. Taking place from December 24th to 26th each year, this lively event attracts both locals and tourists.

During the festival, groups of people don elaborate costumes and take to the streets to showcase their dancing and artistic talents. These masquerade groups, including Ankos, Cosmos, Holy Cities, and Nyanta Boys, come together to celebrate their culture through dance, song, and brass band performances. It is a joyous occasion where participants of all ages and backgrounds express their love for culture and art.

One of the highlights of the festival is the colorful and diverse outfits worn by participants. The streets come alive with music, energy, and a sense of community that captivates everyone present.

The Year of Return initiative, which encourages people from the African diaspora to visit Ghana, has significantly boosted the festival's popularity. Many international tourists, especially those of African descent, flock to Takoradi to join in the festivities and immerse themselves in Ghanaian culture.
