When Is the Best Time To Visit Guyana?

The answer to the question of what is the best month to visit Guyana depends on what you are interested in doing during your stay. Here you can see an overview of each month and its typical weather conditions.

Climate of Guyana

Guyana in most of its area (lowland areas) is in an equatorial climate zone influenced by hot and humid maritime air masses. The only exception is the southwestern area, the Guyana Highlands, which has a sub-equatorial climate that is slightly drier than the rest of the country.

The lowland areas experience tropical weather. High temperatures here persist throughout the year, with little daily variation. On the coast, temperatures reach 20°C - 27°C, while inland areas are warmer at 18°C - 35°C. Humidity and precipitation occurring are also high. On average, it falls up to 3,000 mm per year on the coast, while the farther south the precipitation is slightly lower at around 2,000 mm.

The southwestern region (the Guiana Highlands) is also characterized by a hotter but drier climate. Air temperatures are high, as they reach 25°C - 35°C. Only in the higher parts of the mountains the temperature drops to about 18°C. Rainfall, on the other hand, oscillates at 1,500 mm.

There are two seasons in the country: rainy and dry. The former lasts from May to mid-August and from mid-November to mid-January. The dry, on the other hand, covers the time from mid-January to April and from mid-August to mid-November.
