Facts About La Selle thrush
The La Selle thrush, scientifically known as Turdus swalesi, is a distinctive bird species belonging to the Turdidae family. It is native to the island of Hispaniola in the Caribbean, where it predominantly inhabits broadleaf and pine forests at altitudes of about 1,300 meters.
Regrettably, the La Selle thrush population is both small and declining, particularly in the inland areas of the Dominican Republic. There is also a remnant population in Haiti. Although generally elusive, these birds occasionally exhibit unexpected boldness by approaching roads and human-made structures.
The La Selle thrush is most often heard singing during the early morning and evening hours when they are most active. They flourish in the subtropical and tropical moist montane environments of Hispaniola.
The primary threat to the La Selle thrush is habitat loss, which severely jeopardizes their survival. Conservation efforts are crucial to protect their natural habitat and ensure the continued presence of these birds in the forests of Hispaniola.
