Facts About Palm crow
The palm crow is a small bird belonging to the crow family, primarily found on the Caribbean island of Hispaniola. Although it was once common in Cuba, its population there has significantly declined. There are two subspecies of palm crows: the Hispaniolan palm crow and the Cuban palm crow.
This bird is closely related to the fish crow, which inhabits the East Coast of the United States, as well as to the Tamaulipas crow and Sinaloan crow from Mexico. Together, they constitute a group of closely related species.
In the Dominican Republic, locals refer to the palm crow as "cao" due to its distinctive call. These birds are typically observed in mountainous pine forests and around Lake Enriquillo.
