Facts About Balaton Sound
Balaton Sound is a premier open-air electronic music festival that has been electrifying the southern bank of Lake Balaton in Hungary every summer since 2007. Created by the masterminds behind the renowned Sziget Festival, Balaton Sound is celebrated for featuring an eclectic blend of live acts and DJs from around the world. From household names to emerging talent, the festival consistently promises thrilling performances, often selling out even before tickets officially go on sale.
The inaugural Balaton Sound commenced in July 2007 and immediately captivated attendees. Its picturesque lakeside setting, packed music schedule, and stellar lineup made it an instant sensation. Located in Zamárdi, the festival grounds are a bustling hub featuring multiple stages, intimate lounges, and performance tents. Thanks to generous sponsors, the event also offers luxurious chill-out zones for relaxation. The campsite is equipped with pubs, cocktail bars, and restaurants, boasting amenities that distinguish it from other Hungarian summer music festivals. The Main Stage area alone can accommodate around 50,000 music enthusiasts.
Over the years, the festival’s popularity has steadily increased. In 2008, Balaton Sound drew 88,000 visitors over four days, and by 2009, that number had risen to 94,000. By 2012, it had become Hungary’s second-largest music festival and one of the most attended electronic music festivals in Europe. That same year, it clinched the European Festivals Award for Best Medium-Sized European Festival.
Fast forward to 2018: the festival featured top-tier artists such as David Guetta, Alesso, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, and The Chainsmokers, shattering attendance records with 165,000 fans. The following year, the lineup was equally impressive with performances by J Balvin, Future, and DJs like Armin Van Buuren, Tiesto, and Marshmello.
Balaton Sound has consistently delivered exceptional lineups and unforgettable experiences. It remains a premier destination for electronic music enthusiasts, offering a vibrant, immersive festival atmosphere that keeps attendees returning year after year.
