Mayday is a renowned electronic music festival that originated in Germany in 1991 and later expanded to Katowice, Poland in 2000. Contrary to what its name might imply, Mayday occurs at various times throughout the year. Currently, it is held on April 30th in Dortmund, Germany, and on November 10th in Katowice, Poland.
This festival is more than just a celebration; it sets the tone for the year's techno music scene. Each edition is themed and, until 2013, the lineup was curated by prominent Members of Mayday, including DJs WestBam and Klaus Jankuhn. In Germany, since 1998, Mayday has benefited from the support of eve&rave Münster e.V., which provides drug information services to attendees.
Mayday boasts a rich history, having hosted events in various cities over the years. Highlight moments include the inaugural "Best Of House And Techno '91" in Berlin, which attracted 5,000 attendees, and "Mayday Polska" in Katowice, which saw 9,000 attendees. Over time, the festival has grown significantly, drawing larger crowds and featuring an increasing number of live acts and DJs.
