Lingaraja Temple, Bhubaneswar

The Lingaraja Temple is an ancient monument that stands tall in the city of Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha, India. As a quintessential example of the Kalinga style of architecture, this Hindu temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the oldest and most revered temples in the region. Constructed in the 11th century, it marks the culmination of temple architecture in Odisha.

Rising to a height of about 55 meters, the temple complex sprawls over a massive area and is enclosed by fortified walls. Its striking feature is the towering spire, or 'deul', that dominates the landscape. The intricate carvings and sculptures that adorn the exterior walls of the temple depict the skill of the artisans of the era. The granite block, representing Lord Shiva, is enshrined in the sanctum sanctorum and is revered by devotees.
