Facts About Ceram fruit bat
The Ceram fruit bat, also known as the Seram flying fox, is a prominent species of bat belonging to the Pteropodidae family. These bats inhabit the mountainous forests of the Indonesian islands of Buru and Seram. Notably, Seram is also home to Manusela National Park. While the Ceram fruit bat formerly inhabited Ambon Island, their current presence there remains uncertain.
The habitat of the Ceram fruit bat encompasses less than 20,000 square kilometers and is unfortunately diminishing. The primary causes of this decline are deforestation due to logging and hunting by local communities. As a result of these threats, the Ceram fruit bat has been classified as vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) since 1996.
