The Virgin Annunciate

The "Virgin Annunciate" is a mesmerizing painting by the celebrated Italian Renaissance artist Antonello da Messina. This masterpiece is housed at the Palazzo Abatellis in Palermo, Sicily. Painted around 1476, it exquisitely depicts the moment the Virgin Mary is interrupted by the Angel of the Annunciation while she is engrossed in reading.

The journey of this artwork to its current location is quite fascinating. In 1906, it was acquired by the Museo Nazionale, which is now known as Palazzo Abatellis, thanks to a generous donation by Cavaliere Di Giovanni. He had previously purchased the painting from the Colluzio family in Palermo.
