Edo Castle
Historical landmark with moats Edo Castle, an emblematic historical site nestled in the heart of Tokyo, stands as a testament to Japan's rich feudal past. Originally constructed in 1457, this grand fortress was the residence of the Tokugawa shoguns, who ruled over Japan during the Edo period.
Shakujii Castle
Shakujii castle was a Japanese castle along the Shakujii River, in what is now Shakujii Park, in Tokyo's Nerima. The history of the inheritance of the feudal territory associated with it is the most clearly known of all territories in what is today Tokyo.
Ōoku
The Ōoku refers to the women's quarters of Edo Castle, the section where the women connected to the reigning shōgun resided. Similar areas in the castles of powerful daimyō, such as the Satsuma Domain, were also referred to by this term.
Matsu no Ōrōka
The Matsu no Ōrōka was part of Edo Castle. The name derives from the painted shōji that were decorated with motifs of Japanese pine trees. It was the passage which led to the Shiroshoin from the Ōhiroma of the Honnmaru Goten. The corridor measured around 50 meters in length and 4 meters in width.
