Gokoku-jinja Shrine is a shrine dedicated to the spirits of those who died in the service of the nation, renamed from Shokonsha in 1939. Before World War II, it was under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Home Affairs, but after World War II it became an independent religious corporation. Designated Gokoku Shrines are established in all prefectures except Tokyo and Kanagawa Prefecture, and their main deities are those who were killed in the war or were related to those who were from that prefecture, or those who died in the line of duty as self-defense officers, police officers, firefighters, etc.
