When Is the Best Time To Visit Latvia?

The answer to the question of what is the best month to visit Latvia depends on what you are interested in doing during your stay. Here you can see an overview of each month and its typical weather conditions.

Climate of Latvia

Latvia lies in a transitional temperate climate zone, which is characterized by maritime influences in coastal areas (the Kurland Peninsula) and continental features inland.

Summers are warm and cheerful throughout the country, although evenings and nights remain cooler. Daytime temperatures reach 17°C - 25°C, not very often there are very hot days with temperatures of 30°C. During the warmest months, rain is also not avoided, which is quite common in summer.

Winters in Latvia are usually long, cold and snowy. Temperatures on the coasts range from -3°C to -1°C. Inland areas, on the other hand, are usually a few degrees colder, here the mercury bar can drop below -10°C. Snow is a regular occurrence during the winter months, which usually lasts from December to mid-March. Rivers and lakes freeze over, as does part of the Baltic Sea.

Latvia's location close to the sea brings high levels of humidity and precipitation. Annual precipitation in the coastal region (the Kurland Peninsula) reaches 750 mm, while inland precipitation is slightly lower, around 550 mm. Rainfall is year-round, but most of it falls between June and November.
