Megophrys

Megophrys is a captivating genus of frogs belonging to the Megophryidae family. These unique amphibians, often referred to as Asian horned frogs, earn their nickname from their distinctive, elongated upper "eyebrows." They inhabit a wide range of locales, spanning mainland Southeast Asia, the Sunda Shelf islands, and the Philippines.

What truly stands out about Megophrys frogs is that many species are endemic to specific and often limited geographic areas. For example, they are distributed across various provinces in China, including Anhui, Guangdong, Jiangxi, Hunan, Chongqing, Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou, and Tibet. They are also found in Northeast India, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, Borneo, Sumatra, the Philippines, and Indonesia.

Each species of Megophrys tends to remain within its own region or mountain range. For instance, Megophrys huangshanensis resides in the Huangshan mountains in Anhui, China, while Megophrys dringi inhabits Mount Mulu in Sarawak, Borneo.
