Facts About Sensation
Sensation is a thrilling indoor electronic dance music festival organized by ID&T, which originated in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Initially held exclusively at the Amsterdam Arena for the first five years from 2000 to 2005, Sensation has since expanded its reach to numerous countries worldwide.
The event began with single annual shows in 2000 and 2001 but soon divided into two distinct experiences: Sensation White and Sensation Black, each focusing on different music genres. Sensation White, where attendees are required to dress entirely in white, initially showcased trance music but has gradually shifted to house music over the years. This event has hosted performances by some of the biggest names in electronic dance music, including Tiësto, Armin van Buuren, Swedish House Mafia, and Martin Garrix.
Conversely, Sensation Black, which mandates a black dress code, is dedicated to the harder styles of music such as hard trance, hardstyle, and hardcore. This event has encountered its share of controversies, notably in 2006 when DJ Rob Gee's performance was poorly received, resulting in a physical altercation with an audience member. Despite this incident, Sensation Black has featured renowned DJs such as Showtek, Angerfist, and Mauro Picotto.
In 2017, Sensation announced its final event in Amsterdam, aptly named 'The Final,' which attracted over 50,000 attendees. Over the years, Sensation has faced some criticism from trance fans due to its shift towards house and electro music. However, the organizers have explained that this change reflects evolving music trends. They have adapted the event's programming to feature more house and electro house while maintaining the iconic white dress code.
Throughout its history, Sensation has continually evolved, with changes in themes and music genres. Sensation White now emphasizes house music, while Sensation Black, known for its darker and harder music, has seen various location changes and program adjustments. Despite these shifts, Sensation remains a beloved and popular electronic dance music event, attracting a diverse lineup of international DJs and thousands of enthusiastic fans.
