Sint-Joseph
Facts and practical information
The Sint-Joseph is a corn mill in Kreijel in the Dutch province of Limburg. This bell mill was commissioned in 1840 by a group of twenty farmers, represented by Jan Mathijs Breukers. In 1866 the mill was sold to Mathijs Geussens. At the beginning of the 20th century, the then owner Peter Jan Joosten installed a suction gas engine with a gas generator in order to be able to grind even when there was no wind. Later this was replaced by an electric motor. The Sint-Joseph was in operation as a corn mill until around 1970. In 1979 the mill was restored.
The mill's rods are 25 meters long and are equipped with old Dutch fencing. The mill is equipped with 2 pairs of grinding stones. The Sint-Joseph is owned by the municipality of Nederweert and can usually be visited on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
