Facts About Lagos Photo
The LagosPhoto Festival is a dynamic international photography festival held in Nigeria, inaugurated in October 2010 by the African Artists’ Foundation. The festival aims to utilize art in public spaces to foster societal awareness. Each year, it features a diverse array of workshops, classes, art fairs, and exhibitions, both indoors and outdoors, throughout the city. It highlights the work of both emerging and established photographers.
Azu Nwagbogu, the festival's founder and director, has overseen its growth through various editions, each centered on a unique theme. Past themes have included “No Judgement: Africa Under the Prism,” “What’s Next Africa? The Hidden Stories,” “Seven Days in the Life of Lagos,” “The Mega City and the Non-City,” and “Staging Reality, Documenting Fiction,” among others.
The festival includes a range of special programs such as the Etisalat Photography Competition, the Future Cities Laboratory Mapping Workshop, the FOTObook project, and the LagosPhoto Outdoor Exhibition. Other highlights include the LagosPhoto Projects: Makoko, LagosPhoto Summer School, the Master Class Exhibition, Photographer’s Portfolio Meetings, the POPCAP '13 Exhibition, the TNI.ACP Exhibition, the Witness Exhibition, workshops, artist talks, and the World Press Photo exhibition.
LagosPhoto Festival has become a pivotal platform for nurturing photographic talent in Nigeria. It engages with contemporary issues and promotes cultural exchange through the medium of photography.
