Uszka

Uszka, also known as vushka, are delightful little dumplings typically filled with wild forest mushrooms or minced meat. These tasty morsels are a cherished part of Polish and Ukrainian cuisine, especially during festive Christmas Eve celebrations. You might find them floating in a bowl of rich barszcz (beet soup) or simply served with a drizzle of melted butter and a sprinkle of fresh herbs.

In Poland and Ukraine, these dumplings hold a special place in culinary traditions, often appearing either as an addition to soups or as a standalone side dish. They even go by different names depending on the region: in Polish, they're called uszka; in Belarusian, they're known as вушкі (vúški); in Russian, they're referred to as пельмени (pelmeni); and in Ukrainian, they’re called вушка (vúška).
