Kościół pw. Ducha Świętego, Śrem
Facts and practical information
Holy Spirit Church in Śrem is a Roman Catholic parish church in the town of Śrem. It belongs to Śrem deanery. It is located at Ksiê¿a Kardynała Stefana Wyszyñskiego Street.
The church was built at the end of the 16th century in the late Gothic style as a hospital church. It is a building with one nave, without a separate chancel and a vestry located behind it, covered with a high gable roof, built of bricks in the Polish layout. In 1840, when it was taken over by Protestants, it was rebuilt. The facade was decorated with quadrilateral turrets and a sharp-arched gable. The building was consecrated in 1841. One should pay attention to balconies, characteristic for Evangelic churches.
In the period of the Second Polish Republic the church was owned by a parish belonging to the Srem Superintendency of the Evangelical Union Church.
Since 1945 it has been a Roman Catholic church again. It underwent restoration in the early 1970s. Consequently, the church furnishings are contemporary, only the main altar contains a large Mannerist crucifix from around 1630.
