Rezerwat Dolina Chłapowska
Facts and practical information
Chłapowska Valley - a landscape nature reserve with an area of 24.83 ha, established in 2000, encompassing a protected area of a gorge called the Chłapowska Valley or the Chłapowski Gorge. It is located in the Nadmorski Landscape Park, in the northern part of Kępa Swarzewska in the Władysławowo commune.
The buffer zone of the reserve covers an area of 47.82 ha. The entrance to the gorge starts in Chłapowo, and ends at the seaside beach. The difference in level between the upper part of the gorge and the beach outlet is 50 m.
Legend has it that the name "Rudnik" comes from the red-red soil, a symbol of the bloody ambush against the Swedes that took place there.
There are protected localities of flora and fauna, including: broom broom, sea buckthorn, round-leaved bellflower, juniper, crowberry, ivy and fern.
According to geologists, the gorge was formed as a result of the erosive activity of waters flowing from the Highlands to the Baltic Sea, and the rusty color of the ground is caused by the exudation of groundwater with a high content of iron compounds.
